The above video is a short "teaser trailer" giving visitors a little taste of the mystery. The words are from a poem, written by Richard Moore, about the discovery. He had been looking on an ordnance survey map for directions to the famous "Jumping Church" at Kildemock near Ardee and noticed the roads made a figure of a face. Click here to read Richard's poem.

This is the original Ordnance Survey map of Louth from which Richard Moore discovered The High Man, which is outlined with highlighter. |
He then spotted the head and hair, and pretty soon could see the whole warrior figure on the map. Garrett's Fort is located near the mouth of the figure, beside Kildemock. It is here that legend says Gearóid Iarla and his enchanted army are sleeping in an underground cavern, waiting to be roused by a red-haired, six-fingered hero who will gather them together to fight for Ireland's glory in the last great battle.
The bell that rings, mentioned in the video, is of course the old bell of the church at Kildemock, now silent. The church is in ruins, but one gable end wall is shifted from its original foundation and is leaning heavily. Local folklore says it was either blown off its foundations by a storm or that the church wall moved because a pagan was buried within!!
